INSPIREX EXTRACT (HUO XIANG ZHENG QI WAN) 藿香正气丸

Main indications: A valuable formula for poor digestion due to deficiency of spleen with phlegm-damp or food accumulation which causes nausea, vertigo, headache, pasty or loose stools and flatulence. Excellent for wind-damp invasion of the stomach (summer-damp-heat stomach flu). Traditionally used in cholera. Modern use: Use for helping acute gastroenteritis(either viral or bacterial) or summer flu, travelers diarrhea, influenza and acute colitis.

Inspirex Extract dispels wind-cold, eliminates damp, and regulates qi in the central burner. It is essentially used to treat gastric disorders caused by seasonal damp where symptoms of damp predominate over symptoms of wind-cold. Diarrhea is the primary symptom in these cases, though other symptoms such as fever, vomiting, and diminished appetite may also be present. Acute gastroenteritis may also be treated effectively with this formula.

Although this formula can be used at any time of the year, it is most effective when used during the humid summer months, when disorders related the the exogenous pathogen damp occur most frequently.

Symptoms indicating its use include fever, chills, headache, distention in the central burner, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea with gurgling and copious flatulence. In such cases, the tongue coating will be white and slimy.

Composition and Rationale: Huo Xiang is an aromatic herb that transforms damp, expels wind-cold, and regulates the central burner; fragrant angelica dissipates damp and resolves the exterior by expelling wind-cold; perilla expels wind-cold and harmonizes the center; Bai-zhu atractylodes fortifies the spleen, reduces damp, and warms the center; tangerine regulates central burner qi and dries damp; and Chinese licorice harmonizes the other herbs and clears summerheat.

Contraindications: Do not use Inspirex Extract in cases accompanied by such heat signs as dry mouth, thirst, yellow tongue coating, or fever without aversion to cold..

Directions: Take 8 pills 3 times a day.
